Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Peppermint’ Trailer: Jennifer Garner Returns To Action

Peppermint Trailer

Finally, someone decided to stop casting Jennifer Garner as suburban moms and let her kick some ass in an action role again. Garner stars in Peppermint, a new action-thriller from Taken director Pierre Morel. Garner plays a woman out for justice after waking up from a coma to find her family murdered. Watch the Peppermint trailer below.

I really like Jennifer Garner, and I’m happy to see her get back in the action game. Garner has spent such a long time playing suburban moms or popping-up in commercials that it’s easy to forget she comes from an action background. Her breakout role was on the J.J. Abrams series Alias, and she even got to lead her own action movie once – Elektra, a spin-off from Daredevil. Now Garner appears in Peppermint, a revenge-thriller that sounds a little like Death Wish Starring Jennifer Garner.

In Peppermint, Garner plays a wife and mother “who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. When the system frustratingly shields the murderers from justice, Riley sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerilla. Channeling her frustration into personal motivation, she spends years in hiding honing her mind, body and spirit to become an unstoppable force – eluding the underworld, the LAPD and the FBI – as she methodically delivers her personal brand of justice.”

Peppermint comes from Pierre Morel, director of the first Taken film, and co-stars John Gallagher Jr., John Ortiz, Method Man, Richard Cabral, and Annie Ilonzeh.

I have no idea if this film will turn out well, but I’m hoping for the best, just because I like the idea of Garner doing action again. During a CinemaCon presentation for the film, the actress said:

“The thing about Alias that made it so special was J.J.’s [Abrams] script, and how compelling the stakes were for that character all the time…To do action for the sake of action has never interested me but this script was so smart. There’s no bigger stake than your children and nobody had never asked me in a smart way to do something as a mom for her child.”

Garner also added: “This was to avenge your child’s death, and there’s no bigger reason to go out and get into really good shape and then kill people.” Well said, Jennifer Garner. Well said.

Peppermint opens September 7, 2018.
