Thanos’ motivations in Anthony and Joe Russo’s highly-anticipated 2018 superhero film, Avengers: Infinity War, are described as being psychotic and compelling. Marvel Studios launched their ground-breaking Marvel Cinematic Universe with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man in 2008, and then Marvel TV expanded the shared universe onto the small screen with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2013. But the overarching narrative has been building towards an ultimate showdown with the Mad Titan Thanos (Josh Brolin) since Joss Whedon’s The Avengers hit theaters in 2012.
