‘Veronica Mars’ Season 4 is Confusingly Called ‘Veronica Mars’ Season 1 on the Blu-ray Release

Image
Veronica Mars recently returned for a whole new season on Hulu. Technically, it’s season 4, coming on the heels of the previous three seasons that aired on UPN/The CW. But don’t tell the distributors of the latest season’s Blu-ray release that. For some baffling reason (rights issues?), the  Veronica Mars season 4 Blu-ray is being sold as  Veronica Mars season 1. No, you’re not seeing things. That home video release of the latest season of  Veronica Mars does indeed say  Veronica Mars: The Complete First Season on it. Of course, anyone familiar with the show can tell you the season being sold here  isn’t the first season. The first season aired back in 2004 on UPN. But Warner Archive Collection doesn’t care about needless  facts like that! Instead, they’re putting out the new Hulu episodes (which should be considered season 4) on Blu-ray and DVD with the season 1 heading. Perhaps the selling-point here is an attempt to draw in customers who have...

‘Don’t Worry, Darling’: Olivia Wilde Set to Direct, Star In New Psychological Thriller

Image
Having made her feature directorial debut with the acclaimed comedy  Booksmart , Olivia Wilde has lined-up a very different sort of follow-up. The filmmaker and actress will direct and star in  Don’t Worry, Darling , a psychological thriller about an unhappy 1950s housewife. So it sort of sounds like  Mad Men , with more  thriller stuff . Deadline broke the news about Olivia Wilde’s new movie, stating that studios and streaming services are both clamoring for the flick, with “a dozen offers on the table.” Variety , meanwhile, adds that “The project is being described as ‘a psychological thriller for the Times Up era’ will center on an unhappy 1950s housewife. [Katie] Silberman is re-writing a script by the sibling writing team of Shane and Carey Van Dyke, centered on a 1950s housewife.” Katie Silberman also co-wrote and produced  Booksmart with Wilde, and the duo recently closed a deal to make a holiday comedy together. The good news here is that  B...

‘Friends’ Pop-Up Experience Will Be There for You In New York City This Fall

Image
Twenty-five years ago, six twenty-something New Yorkers sat in the the little corner coffee shop Central Perk and made history. To this day,  Friends is one of the most beloved sitcoms in history, only finding renewed popularity once it hit Netflix a few years ago. They’ve been there for us for the past quarter-century, but soon they’ll be returning to their old haunt of New York City to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary with a special  Friends pop-up NYC experience opening this fall. Warner Bros. is partnering with Superfly to bring a  Friends pop-up experience to New York, featuring a recreation of Central Perk and its iconic couch as well as other sets and props from the hit NBC sitcom. According to ComingSoon.Net , the experience will allow fans to “stick a turkey on your head, peek through Rachel and Monica’s purple door, relax on Chandler and Joey’s recliner after playing some foosball, or help Ross with the infamous sofa pivot. The Definitive Ranking of ‘Fast & Furious’ Films (Including ‘Hobbs and Shaw’)

Image
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is coming to theaters this week ( read our review here ), so it’s time to rev up a new ranking of the entire Fast franchise that includes the new spin-off. So peel out, hit your NOS button, defy some physics, and read on to learn the definitive, inarguable order of these ridiculous but lovable #family films. On today’s episode of /Film Daily, I joined Peter Sciretta and Jacob Hall to discuss and debate the merits of this list, and you can listen in as Jacob comes to the crushing realization that, as I mentioned before, this list is truly definitive and therefore can’t be argued against. (If you, like Jacob, find yourself having any complaints about the order, feel free to sound off in the comments with the full knowledge that the list is totally incontrovertible.) Fast and Furious Ranking 9. 2 Fast 2 Furious Director John Singleton took the reins early in this franchise’s history, when the Fast movies were still trying to establish...

‘Circe’: HBO Looks for Its Next ‘Game of Thrones’ With a Straight-to-Series Order for Ancient Greek Fantasy

Image
Forget dragons, HBO is dealing with gods and goddesses next in the network’s latest post- Game of Thrones acquisition,  Circe .  Based on  Madeline Miller ‘s bestselling 2018 novel of the same name,  Circe tells the story of the banished nymph who romanced the mortal Odysseus in  The Odyssey  from her perspective, following her transformation “from an awkward nymph to a formidable witch, able to challenge gods, titans and monsters alike.” It may be the kind of feminist-bent fantasy that  Game of Thrones fans will need. According to The Hollywood Reporter , HBO has given  Circe a straight-to-series order with Rick Jaffa  and  Amanda Silver  ( Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World ) are on board to write and executive produce the drama series from Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. The duo have experience with female-led content, as they also share screenplay credit on Disney’s 2020 live-action re-do of  Mulan ....

‘New Gods’ Director Ava DuVernay Confirms Some of the Characters in the DC Comics Movie

Image
While the DC Extended Universe is mostly in flux right now, director Ava DuVernay is hard at work on getting the adaptation of  New Gods off the ground. Venturing into the cosmic side of DC Comics, the film focuses on a pair of alien races from opposing planets (New Genesis and Apokolips) who are on the verge of war. But we’ve yet to have confirmation on which characters from Jack Kirby’s vibrant world would be part of the movie. That changed this week with DuVernary confirming a few powerful characters on the roster. While partaking in a Twitter Q&A session, a couple fans asked whether certain characters would be included in the New Gods movie. One of them was already previously teased in the DC Extended Universe though never properly revealed, and that’s Darkseid. Originally intended to be a villain teased at the end of Justice League in order to lead into a sequel, Darkseid never got his due diligence in the DC Extended Universe. A creation of Jack Kirby, the characte...

‘Queen & Slim’ Trailer: Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith Are Ready to Ride or Die

Image
Today’s social climate is tense as racism and violence constantly come to a head, with the latter often inspired by the former. That’s what makes the poignant crime drama like Queen & Slim so appealing. Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith play a newly romantically entangled black man and a black woman who end up on the run when the cop who pulled them over is killed in an act of self-defense. The two become a viral sensation in fighting against systemic racism that has resulted in so many lost lives, but they also find a passionate love between each other. Watch the Queen and Slim trailer below for a closer look. Queen and Slim Trailer Look, we know it’s too early to start throwing around awards buzz, but this immediately looks like a cross between Bonnie & Clyde and If Beale Street Could Talk , and that’s something the Academy will eat up. It clearly has something significant to say about the justice system, racism, a life of crime, and it tosses in a likely tragic...
