Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Tammy and the T-Rex’ Trailer Reveals the Never-Before-Seen “Gore Cut” of This Insane 90s Movie

Image
After Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park hit theaters in 1993, the dinosaur craze began. Hollywood responded with the likes of Prehysteria, Super Mario Bros., We’re Back: A Dinosaur’s Story , and Theodore Rex . But one dinosaur movie tops them all. Tammy and the T-Rex is a cult classic released in 1994 about a high school girl named Tammy and her boyfriend Michael. Thanks to a mad scientist, Michael has his brain transplanted into the body of a life-size, robotic tyrannosaurus rex. After escaping the scientist’s lab, Michael heads off to bring dinosaur pain to those who bully him in school and reunite with his girlfriend. Yes, this is a real movie, and there’s also an R-rated, gore-filled cut of the movie that will have its world premiere at the Cinepocalypse film festival very soon. You can watch the Tammy and the T-Rex uncut trailer below to see some of the insanity. Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘The Dark Tower’ Movie Was Also Disappointing for Producer Ron Howard

Image
Plenty of Stephen King fans are still waiting to see an epic big screen adaptation of the book series The Dark Tower . That’s because the meager attempt to bring the books to life back in 2017 was a total disaster. Clocking in at only 95 minutes, the adaptation didn’t deliver the kind of epic fantasy they’d been hoping to see, and the movie was totally forgettable. If you’re one of the many disappointed fans out there who wished The Dark Tower turned out to be even better, you’re not alone. Producer Ron Howard also ended up being unhappy with the final product. Speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via Collider ) while making the publicity rounds for the new documentary Pavarotti , filmmaker Ron Howard admitted that there were several shortcomings when it came to the final cut of The Dark Tower . Howard said: “I think it should’ve been horror. I think that it landed in a place—both in our minds and the studio’s—that it could be PG-13 and sort of a boy’s adventure… I rea...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: How ‘Rocketman’ Director Dexter Fletcher Lets His Imagination Run Wild [Interview]

Image
Rocketman is no run-of-the-mill rocker biopic. While many movies about innovative and ambitious artists play things off-puttingly safe, that’s not the case with  Dexter Fletcher ‘s Elton John film. Rocketman  is not afraid to be bold like its artists, and just like their music, the final result bursts with creativity and life. The scope of the musical numbers, and how succinctly yet naturally Elton John’s story is told, it’s quite a feat for Flecther as a filmmaker. He’s made a piece of grand spectacle that feels so intimate and personal, which again, is spot-on for capturing the soul of Elton John’s music. If Fletcher’s talent behind-the-camera got overlooked in some corners with  Eddie the Eagle , it won’t be in  Rocketman . Recently, we had a short conversation with Fletcher about Taron Egerton’s performance, depicting the Troubadour performance, and his conversations with Elton John. The scope of this movie is gigantic. With a canvas and timeline ...

The critically acclaimed HBO comedy series will end with its sixth and final season, which is slated to debut later this year. The  Silicon Valley ending will play out in an abbreviated seven episode run, making it the shortest season of the show. Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: What’s Old is New Again: Ranking the 15 Best Franchise Revivals of Recent Years

Image
Reviving old popular culture used to be rare, or at least not terribly common. These days, reviving TV shows and movies for one reason or another is as common as new series themselves. As we all await the return of HBO’s Deadwood with the excellent Deadwood: The Movie (airing this Friday, May 31), it’s time to rank the 15 best revivals of recent TV shows and movies. (You’ll note some exclusions here — the CW/UPN drama Veronica Mars isn’t here. Yes, there was a crowdfunded movie, but with the TV-styled revival on Hulu coming this summer, it’s best to leave it off for now to see how the new show shakes out. But the movie was fine!) 15. Roseanne At least among the sitcom revivals of the 2010s, there’s been a fairly common thread in which each show directly confronts the sociopolitical problems of the present day. That, at least, is what was supposed to be the case with the revival of Roseanne that began airing on ABC just 14 months ago. Undoing the baffling ninth season, t...
