Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Hellboy’ Trailer: It’s Time to Give Evil Hell

Image
A new  Hellboy  reboot trailer is here, and it gives us a better look at David Harbour ‘s new take on the big red demon. But does it do a better job of selling the movie than the last trailer, which left some people underwhelmed? You’ll have to decide for yourself. Watch the  Hellboy trailer below. Hellboy Trailer There is also a red band trailer that embraces the film’s R-rating. Hellboy Red Band Trailer If you’re still on the fence about  Hellboy , is this the trailer that finally convinces you to see it, or do you remain uncertain? The movie certainly has a lot of talented people involved: Neil Marshall , director of The Descent , is at the helm, and  Stranger Things actor David Harbour is Hellboy. Harbour is surrounded by a cast that includes  Milla Jovovich , Ian McShane , Sasha Lane , Daniel Dae Kim , and Thomas Haden Church . So far, so good! But there’s just something off about this reboot. The make-up on Harbour looks too heavy,...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Clifford the Big Red Dog’ Set for Fall 2020, ‘Rugrats’ Pushed Back, ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ Disappears

Image
Paramount Pictures has shuffled around their release date calendar for a bunch of their family programming coming in the next couple years, including two Nickelodeon movies. Clifford the Big Red Dog has been set for a fall 2020 release date. It’s taking the weekend that was previously slated for the new Rugrats movie, which has now been pushed back a few months to early 2021. Meanwhile, Paramount has pulled the Are You Afraid of the Dark? movie from this year’s calendar. First up, The Hollywood Reporter says Clifford the Big Red Dog will arrive in theaters on November 13, 2020 , a couple weeks before Thanksgiving that year. It’s not the first time the crimson dog from Norman Bridwell’s children’s book series has come to the big screen. Clifford’s Really Big Movie hit theaters back in 2004 as an animated feature film. However, this iteration of Clifford will be a live-action and CG hybrid, not unlike films such as Alvin and the Chipmunks . For those who don’t know, Clifford th...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Critters: A New Binge’ Trailer: Shudder Made a ‘Critters’ Original Series, Just For You

Image
The  Critters are back in the Shudder Exclusive short-form series  Critters: A New Binge . The series looks cheesy as hell – and that’s exactly as it should be. We’re talking old school Critters puppets running (or rolling, I guess) around, causing mayhem.  Critters: A New Binge continues a story that started all the way back in 1986 with the first  Critters movie. The film would spawn three sequels, including  Critters 3 , which featured a very young Leonardo DiCaprio going up against the mischievous monsters. Does DiCaprio appear in the new Shudder series? You’ll have to watch it to find out! (No, he doesn’t). Watch the  Critters: A New Binge trailer below. Critters: A New Binge Trailer Does Shudder’s new  Critters series look  good ? And when I say  good , I’m talking in terms of quality. Technically, I’d say no. But  should anything involving  Critters  actually look good? Again – I’d say no. This is a conti...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Kumail Nanjiani to Star in Spy Action Comedy ‘No Glory’ for Adam McKay

Image
Kumail Nanjiani is teaming up with Adam McKay ‘s Gary Sanchez Productions for  No Glory , a spy action comedy based on a true story. Sam Bain , writer of the horror comedy  Corporate Animals and the extremely dark (but funny!) comedy  Four Lions , will adapt a still-unpublished manuscript from National Security Operative and author Scott Shephard . Specifics about the story are slim, but “Kumail Nanjiani in a spy comedy” should be enough to get your attention. Valparaiso Picture’s David Carrico and Adam Paulsen are set to produce No Glory  alongside Gary Sanchez Productions’ Adam McKay, Chris Henchy , and Will Ferrell , and that’s an impressive line-up of behind-the-scenes talent. But just what is  No Glory ? Beyond the report that it’s a “spy action comedy,” we have very little to go on. The film is “based on the manuscript which was written by a National Security Operative and author Scott Shephard about the operative’s time in service to the coun...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Stockholm’ Trailer: Ethan Hawke and Noomi Rapace Invent Stockholm Syndrome

Image
As  Ethan Hawke storms into a bank, gun blazing and bad wig flying, it’s easy to understand the origins of the term “Stockholm syndrome.” The phrase, which refers to captives developing an irrational sympathy for their captors, was first coined in 1973 after four hostages acted sympathetically with their captors during a bank robbery in Sweden. The upcoming dark comedy  Stockholm is based on that story. Watch the first  Stockholm  trailer below. Stockholm Trailer Written and directed by  Robert Budreau and distributed by Dark Star Pictures,  Stockholm stars Hawke as Lars Nystrom, a petty criminal who disguises himself as a flamboyant American to rob Stockholm’s Kreitbank. He partners with his friend Gunnar ( Mark Strong ), who was recently released from prison, to take hostages and make ridiculous demands for $1 million and “a Mustang 302 like Steve McQueen had in  Bullitt .” But as the hostage crisis wears on for longer, the hostages, includi...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘The Magicians’ Taps the Brakes With “Marry F–ck Kill” and “Escape From the Happy Place”

Image
The fourth and fifth episodes of The Magicians are slower paced than the beginning of the season, allowing viewers to marinate in some under-explored relationships and to circle back to some dangling storylines. The results are mixed, but the show’s quick dialogue and unexpectedly poignant character moments make both episodes—especially Episode 5—rich fodder that fans will enjoy. “Marry Fuck Kill” The Magicians’ fourth episode, “Marry Fuck Kill,” is a detour from the main conflicts of the season (the Eliot-Monster doesn’t even kill anyone in this episode!), and takes us down a meandering path that explores relationships between characters we haven’t seen interact much with each other. This journey is…well, fine, for the most part; a pleasant romp sprinkled with some nice moments for Julia and Margo. By the end of the episode, however, the viewer is eager to return to the larger arcs of the season. Each relationship explored this episode had some gems, though. Let’s start with M...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage Are ‘Brothers’ in New Comedy from ‘Tropic Thunder’ Writer

Image
Remember when Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito played brothers in the 1988 comedy Twins ? Well, we’re about to see that comedy formula put to the test again with a new comedy called Brothers at Legendary Entertainment. The film will see Avengers: Infinity War co-stars Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage playing a pair of unlikely siblings. The Hollywood Reporter has news on this film, which has just been picked up in a bidding war by Legendary Entertainment. Not only are Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage attached to star in the movie, but they’ll each be producing via their their respective Brolin Productions and Estuary Films production banners along with American Sniper producer Andrew Lazar and Mad Chance. However, beyond the two stars playing each other’s brother, we don’t have any story details. Even so, just the idea of Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage playing brothers is hilarious. And then there’s  Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen penning the script. However, that ...
