Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Thanos’ Black Order Were Avengers: Infinity War’s Weak Link

Image
The Black Order was a big disappointment in Avengers: Infinity War , one of the weakest links in a very well-balanced film. First appearing in 2013’s New Avengers #8  created by Jonathan Hickman, Jerome Opeña, and Jim Cheung, the classic version of the group consists of Corvus Glaive, Black Swan, Ebony Maw, Supergiant, Proxima Midnight, and Black Dwarf. For the film, the team was streamlined to only four members: Glaive, Maw, Midnight, and Cull Obsidian (a dead ringer Black Dwarf) Officially confirmed during last year’s D23 Expo, the Black Order, re-purposed in the film as Children of Thanos , acts as the intergalactic villain’s henchmen. Following their decimation of Xandar and the Asgardian ship that resulted with ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Zack Snyder Wishes Gal Gadot Happy Birthday With New Justice League Image

Image
Justice League director Zack Snyder wished star Gal Gadot a happy birthday with an image of a deleted scene from the movie. Turning 33 years old on Monday, Gadot has DC fans waiting patiently for her return in 2019’s Wonder Woman 2 . And although Justice League turned out to be a critically polarizing film and a disappointment at the box office, it’s hardly because of Gadot, who in the wake of Wonder Woman has emerged as the DC cinematic universe’s brightest star. Snyder, meanwhile, left Justice League before it was finished as he grieved with his family after the death of his daughter – but there’s also a  Click to continue reading Zack Snyder Wishes Gal Gadot Happy Birthday With New Justice League Image The post Zack Snyder Wishes Gal Gadot Happy Birthday With New Justice League Image appeared first on Screen Rant . A new  Star Wars: Episode IX casting call details a female lead who goes by the name of Caro. While fans of the galaxy far, far away eagerly await the theatrical premiere of this summer’s  Solo: A Star Wars Story , Lucasfilm is making the final preparations to begin filming on the sequel trilogy finale. Director J.J. Abrams is returning to finish what he started, drawing from a script written by himself and Chris Terrio. As has become standard practice for new  Star Wars installments, it looks like  Episode IX is set to add some fresh faces to canon. It wasn’t too long ago word got out Abrams and company ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Ant-Man & The Wasp’s Poster Unmasks New Villain, Ghost

Image
With a trailer on the way tomorrow, a new poster for Ant-Man and the Wasp has been released, and it gives us our first unmasked look at Hannah John-Kamen’s villain character – Ghost. We saw very little of Ghost in the previous trailer – just a brief close-up of her masked face, and a shot of her hand as she tried out her super-suit’s abilities (more on them later), so this is the first time we’ve actually seen her face. Even fans of the first Ant-Man movie (which, like Ant-Man and the Wasp , was directed by Peyton Reed) generally admit that its villain was not its ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Infinity War Cast Wants to Know Where Ant-Man and The Wasp Were

Image
Mild SPOILERS for  Avengers: Infinity War . – A new video sees the cast of  Avengers: Infinity War humorously wondering where Ant-Man and the Wasp were during the battle against Thanos. In the build-up to  Infinity War , many fans were bothered by the lack of Hawkeye in the marketing for the movie. We were told Hawkeye has his own thing going on , implying that his mission would be spoiler-y if revealed. In the end, however, Hawkeye simply didn’t appear in the film – and he wasn’t the only one, either. Valkyrie, Korg, Nakia, and several other recent additions to the MCU sat out  Avengers: Infinity War , despite their proximity to the action. But along with Hawkeye, the most glaring absence was Ant-Man. The Wasp was never going to be part of the film, something we learned quite some time ago. But Ant-Man’s absence after his involvement in  Captain America: Civil ... Click to continue reading Infinity War Cast Wants to Know Where Ant-Ma...

Image
Mild SPOILERS for  Avengers: Infinity War . – The writers behind  Avengers: Infinity War  have explained why certain characters took a backseat or were missing from the film – and teased that  Avengers 4  will mix things up.  Infinity War had a massive opening weekend , setting new records for U.S. and global opening weekends in the process. With no major competition until mid-May, Infinity War should continue to dominate the box office for the next few weeks. Even more impressive is the fact that a year from now, Avengers 4 may surpass  Infinity War ‘s own record-breaking run. Regardless of whether or not that actually happens, audiences will be anxious to see what becomes of their favorite characters in  Avengers 4 , following ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Dan Trachtenberg to Direct Amazon’s ‘The Boys’ Pilot, Replacing Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

Image
Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were originally set to direct Amazon’s pilot for  The Boys , the long-awaited adaptation of the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson comic series. But due to scheduling conflicts, they’ve since had to step aside and make way for a new director to come in, and now we know who that will be: Dan Trachtenberg , the up-and-coming filmmaker of the excellent 10 Cloverfield Lane . Read more about the new director of The Boys pilot below. Variety reports that Trachtenberg will direct the first episode of the upcoming drama series for Amazon. “Dan’s a massive fan of the comic like us, and we’re massive fans of his, so we’re excited to have his more talented skill set brought to the show,” Rogen and Goldberg said in a statement. The Boys  is set in a world in which superheroes run rampant and tells the story of a CIA black ops team tasked with monitoring the “heroes” who have become corrupt: spying on them, blackmailing them, and even occasionally roughin...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Kevin Smith: Silent But Deadly’ Teaser: Kevin Smith’s Stand-Up Show From the Night of His Heart Attack is Coming to Showtime

Image
Two months ago, we almost lost a comedy great. But  Kevin Smith is recovering from his brush with death and better than ever, adopting a plant-based diet and losing 32 pounds since his massive heart attack in February. But before we move forward, Showtime wants us to look back — at the night that Smith suffered his near-fatal heart attack . The network is premiering the stand-up special that Smith performed the night he suffered his “widowmaker” heart attack on February 26. You can get an idea of what the special entails with the new  Kevin Smith Silent But Deadly teaser. Kevin Smith Silent But Deadly Teaser Perhaps the title is a little too on-the-nose. However, Smith didn’t seem to mind when Showtime picked up the special earlier this month , writing on Twitter , “The comedy special I was shooting with [Comedy Dynamics] the night I almost died of a heart attack has been picked up by Showtime! Mark your calendars: It airs MAY 11th on the same network as [Homeland...

Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘The Killer’ Remake Starring Lupita Nyong’o in the Works With Original Director John Woo

Image
The Killer was not John Woo’ s first movie, but it was the movie that put the director and his instantly recognizable flavor of Hong Kong action on the international map. American action films have spent the past 30 years shamelessly cribbing from Woo’s filmography, so a Hollywood remake of this bonafide classic was inevitable. The news that this is finally happening is not surprising. What is surprising is that Woo himself is returning to direct and that Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will star, gender-swapping the role originally played by Chow Yun-Fat. And like that, I’m suddenly interested in a The Killer remake. Deadline has the news, reporting that Universal wants to fast track the production, which will shoot in France and Germany later this year. Woo is among the laundry list of producers on the film, which was written by Collide ‘s Eran Creevy ( Collide ) and 10   Cloverfield Lane ‘s Josh Campbell & Matt Stuecken. Veteran screenwriter Brian Helgeland ( ...

Image
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Thanos actor Josh Brolin have thanked the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fans for supporting  Avengers: Infinity War  on its way to a massive opening weekend at the global box office. Marvel fans went to see Infinity War in droves, and although the film left many crying, scratching their heads and/or even traumatized, it has already become one of the largest movie events of the year, if not the decade. Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Adi Shankar Reveals Contest to Address Simpsons’ Apu Problem

Image
Aspiring writers get a chance to fix The Simpsons ‘ Apu problem thanks to a new contest launched by film producer and YouTube personality Adi Shankar. The venerable animated sitcom The Simpsons just made history by passing Gunsmoke to become the scripted series with the most-ever episodes . Lately however, the conversation around The Simpsons hasn’t focused on its admirable longevity, but rather on the possibility that the long-lived show has finally grown out-of-touch with the culture at large. Much of the conversation about The Simpsons ‘ arguable lack of perspective has centered on the character of Apu, the Indian-American convenience store owner voiced by Hank Azaria. The filmmaker would direct Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and a planned two-part Justice League movie, in addition to producing and advising on movies like Wonder Woman . Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Has a Few MCU Continuity Errors – Let’s Nitpick Them

Image
While Avengers: Infinity War is a badass film worthy of breaking box office records, it also makes some changes to the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that don’t quite line-up with the story that has preceded it. In fairness to our nitpicking Comic Book Guy side, we thought it might be worth pointing out where the story diverts a bit from its previously established cinematic canon. Gamora’s Backstory is Altered Slightly In the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy , Gamora reveals her backstory in an intimate moment with Peter Quill: “He’s not my father. When Thanos took my home world, he killed my parents in front of me. He tortured me, turned me into a weapon.” You might remember that, in the trailers and marketing, John C. Reilly’s Nova Corps character Rhomann Dey mentions  that Gamora is the “last surviving member of her species.” The dialogue is different in the film, where Dey explains that she has been “surgically modified and trained as a living weapon” af...

Avengers: Infinity War may have many Marvel fans anxiously clamoring for more Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to be released every year, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige says that won’t happen unless Marvel has  “very good reasons” for doing so. After this past weekend, a lot of Marvel fans have begun to speculate about the movies that Marvel already has in the pipeline and how they will play into the story of Infinity War . Those fans are also formulating theories and doing all kinds of crazy math to figure out exactly where Marvel plans to take the MCU next. With the next MCU releases being Ant-Man and the Wasp in ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: 10 DC Actors Who Are Legitimately Tough (And 10 Who Are Only Tough On Screen)

Image
It’s a widely known fact that for an actor to portray a character from DC comics – whether it be an uber powerful alien who defies all laws of physics or a thuggish, fiendishly clever clown – they’ve got to communicate an unmistakable toughness. This can mean all kinds of things– either the toughness must unfailingly endure as a shining example in a dreary world or the toughness must frighten the audience. Some actors are able to reach this level of toughness by going above and beyond the usual gym work and diet requirements needed to attain these godly superhuman bodies. Others have ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Kevin Feige Says Avengers 4 Is Not Titled Infinity Gauntlet

Image
Despite rumors to the contrary, Kevin Feige says the title for  Avengers 4 will not be Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet . When Marvel announced back in 2014 that  Avengers 3 and  4 would be titled  Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 & 2 , comic fans knew just what was in store for them. While Thanos and the Infinity Stones had barely been teased at that point, the subtitle of the films pointed towards an arc in the comics that saw the Mad Titan wipe out half of the universe before various heroes and villains had to unite to stop him. But the real start of that story was  The Infinity Gauntlet . The MCU Thanos is different from the comics ... Avengers: Infinity War set a new record for largest worldwide opening at the box office this weekend, but its figure would have been substantially higher if its Chinese premiere wasn’t delayed. Over the years, Marvel Studios has become notorious for staggering their release dates around the globe, meaning different countries received their films at different times. For  Infinity War , things were different. In an effort to combat the spread of spoilers, Marvel debuted their epic crossover in just about all parts of the world by the end of April. There were, however, a couple of notable exceptions. Chief among ... Patrick Álvarez & Louis Leret recommends: Action-Packed ‘Cloak and Dagger’ Trailer Shows Off Marvel’s Latest Divine Pairing

Image
While all eyes are on Marvel Studios and Avengers: Infinity War right now, Marvel Television is about to launch a brand new TV show with Cloak & Dagger . Freeform has debuted a final trailer for the series, and it proves that this isn’t just going to be another teen soap opera – this thing has some kick to it, too. Check out the extended Cloak and Dagger trailer below. Cloak and Dagger Trailer OK, so Cloak and Dagger  definitely is a teen soap opera. That’s Freeform’s bread and butter. But as this trailer reveals, there’s some serious ass-kicking in store as well. This is by far my favorite trailer they’ve released thus far: it’s got some Aladdin vibes in the very beginning with the street rat duo of Cloak ( Aubrey Joseph ) and Dagger ( Olivia Holt ), and I’m really digging the cover of “House of the Rising Sun” they’ve been leaning on for this campaign.  Gina Prince-Bythewood ( Love & Basketball , Sony’s upcoming superhero film Silver & Black ) directed t...
