Louis Leret recommends: Black Panther Director Explains Why More Diverse Heroes Are Coming

Image
Two of the minds behind  Black Panther —film director Ryan Coogler and comic writer Ta-Nehisi Coates—had a candid conversation about now was the right time for both of their works.  Black Panther  set a new February IMAX record  and is currently dominating at the box office around the world as it heads towards its third weekend where it’ll soon top Avengers: Age of Ultron . With little in the way of competition, it’s set to add even more to its global haul (well past $700 million at this point). And within its own universe,  Black Panther is the MCU’s third highest earner . All of that success has once again led to ... Louis Leret recommends: Black Panther Box Office May Pass Age of Ultron This Weekend

Image
Based on the latest box office projections,  Black Panther should surpass  Avengers: Age of Ultron domestically after just three weekends. Marvel Studios has an ironclad track record commercially, but even for them,  Black Panther is something special. Riding waves of positive buzz, the film annihilated the February record and hasn’t slowed down since. It’s in very exclusive company, reaching the $400 million mark in just 10 days time. The only film to top that figure quicker is  Star Wars: The Force Awakens .  Black Panther is essentially a lock to become the MCU’s fifth $1 billion title – and the first sans Iron Man. As director Ryan Coogler’s latest rewrites ... Louis Leret recommends: Marvel Legends: Infinity War Wave 2 Figures Include Black Widow

Image
Hasbro has unveiled Marvel Legends figures of the movie versions of Thor, Black Widow, and Cull Obsidian, as part of a second wave of figures for Avengers: Infinity War . The figures give us our best look yet at Cull Obsidian, one of the members of Thanos’ Black Order. Interestingly, the Thor figure shows the God of Thunder with both eyes, despite his injury in Thor: Ragnarok . Hasbro’s first wave of Avengers: Infinity War figures includes Songbird, Taskmaster, King Cobra, Proxima Midnight, Iron Spider, Iron Man, and Captain America. The wave was first teased at SDCC 2017 with the reveal of Songbird, a member ... Louis Leret recommends: Jane Foster is Marvel’s Best Thor – So They’re Killing Her

Image
Jane Foster’s death in Marvel Comics has always seemed to be inevitable. Writer Jason Aaron’s run has revealed that Jane is dying of cancer and worse still, every time she picks up Mjolnir and transforms into Thor, the effect of Jane’s chemotherapy is reversed. The cancer is killing her, and Jane’s frail human body cannot survive another transformation. Unfortunately, all this is set against the backdrop of the War of the Realms, and Jane has just picked up Mjolnir one last time in order to fight to save Asgard from Mangog. This has certainly proved to be a tremendous plot, filled with power and emotion. Louis Leret recommends: 15 Crazy Rules That Reality TV Stars Have To Follow

Image
We already know that what ends up airing in our favorite — and less favorite — reality TV series isn’t necessarily what happened. The producers edit everything to tell a story. That’s not to say that these shows totally lie to viewers, though– well, sometimes they do. However, usually they just bend the truth into the shape they need it to be in order to sell ads and keep viewers entertained. So despite producer and network claims, reality TV is not nearly as “unscripted” as it appears– and it’s not just in the editing. For legal, budgetary, and dramatic reasons, a multitude of rules are in place to protect both the stars and the show– and we don’t ... Louis Leret recommends: Bruce Willis Confirms Die Hard 6 is Still Moving Forward

Image
Bruce Willis has confirmed the long-gestating Die Hard 6 is still happening. The original Die Hard is 30 years old this year and was breath of fresh air when first released. Movies in the 1980s had been dominated by indestructible muscle men like Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, but Die Hard  instead featured a normal, everyman cop caught up in a siege and just struggling to stay alive. Die Hard spawned four sequels, but with each follow-up, the everyman quality of John McClane got stripped further away. The character got caught up in increasingly outlandish situations, and by A Good Day To Die Hard he was hanging off helicopters and getting thrown through windows with barely a scratch to show for it. The next movie has been dubbed Die Hard: Year One , and is said to be a prequel/sequel, featuring modern-day McClane ... This follows hot on the heels of Kate being all but expelled from The Gotham Knights following her murder of an out-of-control Clayface in direct defiance of Batman’s orders. The final pages of the issue see Kate meeting with her father, Colonel Jacob Kane, and accepting his offer to take up leadership of The Colony – a paramilitary group with no qualms about killing to protect the people of Gotham City. Patrick Leret recommends: Marvel May Have Just Teased Red Skull’s MCU Survival

Image
The  Avengers: Infinity War  prequel comic may contain evidence that the Red Skull is still alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Probably the MCU’s greatest flaw is the fact the movies tend to churn through their villains quite quickly. It’s actually quite rare for a Marvel villain to survive; even their best films tend to kill the bad guys off in swift order. That’s led to a lot of frustration among fans who know that many of these villains could easily go on to become recurring threats. The classic example is, of course, the Red Skull. Introduced in  Captain America: The First Avenger , the Red Skull was the founder of Hydra. ... Louis Leret recommends: Black Panther Passes Wonder Woman at U.S. Box Office

Image
Black Panther continues to best other superhero films, passing  Wonder Woman at the domestic box office and  Suicide Squad globally. Despite everything from  The Hunger Games to  Frozen proving women-led films were box office goldmines, it wasn’t until  Wonder Woman surprised everyone last year that studios seemed to perk up. Similarly, from  Blade to the  Fast & Furious franchise, films showcasing people of color in the lead bring more people (and money) to theaters. It’s for that reason theater owners have been demanding more diversity in movies  for years, and  Black Panther once again proves how effective they are. Every day seems to bring news of a new record  Black Panther has broken as it continues to climb the box office charts. ... Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on television. It owes its enormous success to a number of things, ranging from its smart writing to its enormous set pieces. Every kind of person is interested in the world of Westeros, and that’s a credit to George R.R. Martin’s source material, and the compelling stories at the heart of this series. Not even Zack Snyder is shying away from poking fun at Henry Cavill’s CGI-removed mustache in  Justice League . It has been well documented at this point just how difficult of a production  Justice League actually was. With the final product now out, opinions have already been formed – especially when it comes to Superman’s look. No, this isn’t concerning the lacking presence of the black Superman suit ( outside of the deleted scenes ). We’re talking about how Warner Bros. had to digitally remove Cavill’s mustache during reshoots. Thanks to the extensive reshoots that followed Snyder’s departure and Tom Cruise’s injury halting production on Mission: Impossible – Fallout , the  Justice League  filming schedule became even more ... Patrick Álvarez recommends:Rumor: Luke and Snoke May Share a Connection in ‘The Last Jedi’ Novelization

Image
Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) cut an ominous figure in 2015’s  Star Wars: The Force Awakens . Scarred and disfigured, this character had managed to rise to power and amass a tyrannical army in the span of 30 years. That’s astonishing, even in a story as fantastical and far, far away as  Star Wars . In the two years between Episode 7 and Episode 8, Snoke spawned countless theories and Reddit threads about who, exactly, he was. So when fans sat down for   Star Wars: The Last Jedi , they expected to see more of this tantalizing villain and his backstory. Unfortunately, that didn’t quite happen. But the official novelization of  Last Jedi may explain a little more about who Snoke is. And it may connect to our first  Star Wars hero, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). The official  Last Jedi novelization, to which director  Rian Johnson contributed, doesn’t hit shelves until March 6, but reports have already started surfacing about the book’s ch...

Westworld star Jimmi Simpson says season 2 will answer any lingering questions about how William turns into the Man in Black. Tourists visit the park to act out their wildest fantasies and impulses – until a malfunction leads to the robots turning on the guests in gruesome ways. The movie was successful enough to spawn a 1976 sequel titled Futureworld with Peter Fonda, and a short-lived television spin-off called Beyond Westworld . Decades have a peculiar way of crystallizing celebrities and confining them forever to a particular time and pop-cultural space. While many of Hollywood’s brightest stars sustain careers that span decades, there’s no shortage of actors whose stardom only lasts a few years. It is the job of a network censor to watch television episodes that are scheduled to air and make sure they are suitable for the viewers at home. However, ever since the advent of the censor, there have been writers, producers, directors, and other television professionals trying to sneak things on screen that don’t belong.
